PNM Models Streaming Issue with Milestone VMS

1. Issue

PNM camera models with firmware version 2.23.00 experience streaming issues when connected to Milestone VMS. The camera shows "Connection is broken" error in Milestone XProtect, despite being properly registered.

Test Environment:
- Milestone XProtect Corporate 2025 R2 (25.2.1) with Device Pack (13.9.2170.1)
- PNM-9085RQZ1 (f/w: 2.23.00)
- PNM-9085RQZ (f/w: 2.23.00)

Note: The same cameras work correctly with Genetec Security Center 5.13.


2. Root Cause

The RTSP authentication mechanism was modified in firmware 2.23.00 to perform authentication for each RTSP method separately. During each authentication, the session ID changes, causing Milestone VMS to disconnect the stream.


3. Resolution

The issue has been fixed in firmware version 2.23.01, released in December 2025. The fix ensures that the same session ID is used throughout the RTSP authentication process, maintaining compatibility with Milestone VMS.

Workaround (for 2.23.00): Downgrade to firmware version 2.22.02 or 2.22.03.

Fix: Update to firmware version 2.23.01 (available on official website since December 2025).


5. Reproduction Steps

  1. Register a PNM camera (firmware 2.23.00) to Milestone XProtect VMS.
  2. Attempt to view live stream from the camera.

Result: Error message "Connection is broken" appears. Camera reconnection and server reboot do not resolve the issue.


6. Verification

  • Issue confirmed on PNM-9085RQZ1 and PNM-9085RQZ with Milestone XProtect Corporate 2025 R2.
  • Same cameras verified working correctly with Genetec Security Center 5.13.
  • Fix verified in firmware 2.23.01 - streaming works correctly with Milestone VMS.
